Diversity Plays a Crucial Role in Otolaryngology
Now Accepting Applications – Diversity URM Away Rotation Grants for 2026
Are you a medical student interested in exploring a career in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery? Are you planning an away rotation in 2026? The Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO‑HNS) is proud to continue its commitment to fostering a more diverse and inclusive specialty through the Diversity URM Away Rotation Grants.
For 2026, the Committee will award $1,000 Diversity URM Away Rotation Grants to selected medical students from underrepresented minority (URM) backgrounds. These funds may be used to offset travel, housing, or related expenses during an otolaryngology away rotation.
The goal of this program is to expand access, reduce financial barriers, and introduce more URM students to the field. Applicants are encouraged to pursue an away rotation at one of the participating programs listed on the grant webpage. Several institutions also offer additional stipends to students completing an away rotation, providing further support during the experience.

We encourage eligible students with a strong interest in otolaryngology to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to deepen their clinical experience, build mentorship connections, and explore training programs across the country.
