The Academy’s collective community of 60-plus committees help our specialty flourish and succeed from the contributions of its members. Committees are the lifeblood of the Academy and foster collaboration which produces so many vital contributions across the specialty. Education Committee Service
Serving on a Foundation Education Committee
The nine AAO-HNSF Education Committees are charged with the mission-critical responsibility of creating and maintaining education products and content for Academy members. In addition to attending committee meetings held throughout the year, such as the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO and several virtual meetings, members of this committee will also actively participate in planning and creating new education activities throughout the year.
Committee member responsibilities include the following:
- Create the committee’s annual section for FLEX—Focused Lifelong Education Xperience (FLEX)
- Create and maintain the committee’s Otolaryngology Core Curriculum (OCC) modules
- Review, maintain, and update the entire AAO-HNSF education catalogue
- Create evidence-based quiz and test questions that are used in the OCC, the OTO Quest Knowledge Assessment Tool (question bank), and the Academic Bowl, which is held at the Annual Meeting
- Author articles for the “From the Education Committees” and “Pearls from Your Peers” Bulletin columns
- Participate in additional opportunities to create new education activities for Clinical Practice Guidelines, proposals/abstracts for the Annual Meeting education sessions, faculty development courses, advanced practice provider (APP) education, simulation education, and other Foundation education supported activities
Serving on a Simulation Education Committee
The Simulation Education Committee is one of nine AAO-HNSF Education Committees charged with the mission-critical responsibility of creating and maintaining Simulation-based education content for Academy members. In addition to attending committee meetings held throughout the year, such as the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting & OTO EXPO and several virtual meetings, members of this committee will also actively participate in planning for and facilitating simulation-based education activities throughout the year.
Committee member responsibilities include the following:
- Plan and coordinate simulation-based courses for member education at the Annual Meeting
- Consult on, select, and enhance all Annual Meeting hands-on education experiences contained within the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting schedule
- Curate member-submitted simulation proposals and products for the Annual Meeting’s SIM Tank and Simulation Showcase sessions
- Support FLEX, the OCC, and other AAO-HNSF education products with simulation-centered learning opportunities, including “” creation
- Innovate and create new avenues for member learning through simulation
- Author simulation-related articles for the “From the Education Committees” and “Pearls from Your Peers” Bulletin columns
- Participate in additional opportunities to create new education activities for Clinical Practice Guidelines, Annual Meeting education sessions, faculty development, APP education, education product support, and other AAO-HNSF supported activities
